Gus Malzahn can add another coach of the year trophy to his collection, as it was announced on Wednesday night that the Auburn coach had been named the Paul "Bear" Bryant College Coach of the Year.

Now, it's somewhat comical to think that Auburn's coach is winning an award named after Bear Bryant, but Malzahn has plenty in common with Bryant.

"When you're growing up he's the man," Malzahn said. "The fact that I'm from the state of Arkansas and he's from Fordyce, Arkansas and one of my best friends is coaching high school there makes it even that much more special."

Malzahn won the award over Baylor's Art Briles, Michigan State's Mark Dantonio and Rice's David Bailiff.

While Auburn may have lost the national championship to Florida State, it didn't diminish the turnaround Malzahn led this season. Auburn finished the 2012 season with a 3-9 record, including an 0-8 record in SEC play, before bouncing back to win the SEC and get to the title game under Malzahn this season.
