Tide 5-star CB enrollee Tony Brown charged with resisting arrest

By Jerry Hinnen | Staff Writer

The Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed Sunday night that Crimson Tide freshman cornerback Tony Brown was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with resisting arrest and failure to obey.

Brown has been released on a $1,500 bond.

"Coach Saban is aware of the situation and will handle it appropriately once he has a chance to review all of the information," Alabama athletics official Jeff Purinton told the Tuscaloosa News.

Brown is one of eight early enrollees in Alabama's recruiting class of 2014, a five-star cornerback from Beaumont, Texas ranked as the No. 2 cornerback in the class and No. 9 prospect overall.

Officers responded to a Tuscaloosa apartment complex after midnight Saturday, per and the Tuscaloosa News, following reports of a loud party and underage drinking. After police took another partygoer into custody, Brown allegedly ignored officers' requests to leave the area, walking a few steps away before returning to confront the officers again.

According to a press release issued by Tuscaloosa PD Sunday, Brown was warned that failing to leave the parking lot would result in his arrest, at which point Brown "yelled threatening profanity at the officer and stepped toward the officers again." At that point Brown was taken into custody, but not before resisting arrest and being sprayed with pepper spray, according to the release.

Brown is expected to challenge for immediate playing time in Alabama's secondary in 2014 -- though any potential suspension might mean it's not as immediate as he'd like.
