Report: Michigan State commit slams security guard to ground

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer

Four-star quarterback, and Michigan State commit Jayru Campbell allegedly slammed a security guard to the ground at Detroit's Cass Tech High School on Wednesday.

According to a report from the NBC affiliate in Detroit, Campbell was in police custody on Wednesday evening, and a spokeswoman for Detroit Public Schools said that Campbell will be disciplined internally according to the student code of conduct. That same spokeswoman said that, had the incident happened outside the school, Campbell could have been charged with misdemeanor assault and battery.

Michigan State released a statement on Wednesday that read "NCAA rules prohibit institutions from commenting on specific prospects until a National Letter of Intent has been signed." As of Thursday, Michigan State has not pulled its scholarship offer to Campbell.

Campbell, who is rated as the No. 9 dual-threat quarterback in the 2015 recruiting class, is already suspended for the beginning of the 2014 season after punching an opponent in the handshake line following a game.
