North Carolina has suspended linebacker Travis Hughes from all team activities following a run-in with a campus parking attendant.

Team spokesperson Kevin Best confirmed Hughes' suspension on Thursday night. The incident resulted in an assault charge from campus police for the junior linebacker.

More details, via Andrew Carter of the News & Observer:

Police charged Hughes Thursday morning after an altercation with a parking attendant on campus, Best said. Details of the altercation weren't immediately available, but Best said UNC coach Larry Fedora suspended Hughes "immediately" when he learned that Hughes had been charged.

Randy Young, a spokesman for the UNC Department of Public Safety, didn't immediately return a call seeking more details about the alleged assault.

Hughes finished the season with 76 tackles (fifth-best on the team) and started 11 of 12 regular season games. He missed the Belk Bowl win due to an injury, but Hughes was set to be UNC's second-leading returning tackler for 2014.

This is not the first time Hughes has been in trouble with the law, receiving a charge for possession of drug paraphernalia last January. Hughes was disciplined internally, according to Tar Heels coach Larry Fedora, for that matter.
