VIDEO: Brian Kelly says 2014 Irish class about depth

By Jerry Hinnen | Staff Writer

Notre Dame is one of just three teams outside the SEC to currently rank in the 247Sports Composite Team Ranking top 10, with an impressive 16 four stars headed to South Bend to play for Brian Kelly. Kelly told CBSSports.com's Signing Day Live that his staff had kept an eye out for "home-run hitters" at the skill positions -- but that they approached the 2014 class with strength in the trenches as their No. 1 goal.

"If you really boil this class down, it's about the front seven and the offensive line," Kelly said. "Other than ['the home-run hitters'] our focus was the front seven, the offensive line, and getting the depth we needed to have in our program."

Among the Irish's signees are four-star tackle Quenton Nelson, four-star tackle Alex Bars, four-star defensive tackle Jay Hayes, and four-star defensive end Grant Blankenship.
