Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston was in Texas on Monday to officially accept the Davey O'Brien Award, given annually to the top quarterback in college football. Winston has been a busy man recently, recording his first save of the season on the pitching mound and finding time to add a side trip to visit the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium.
Winston's fielded several questions about his second season with Florida State's nationally ranked baseball team, and added some comments on his professional baseball aspirations.
"That is my dream," Winston said when asked about playing both football and baseball professionally. "whether it's me being a closer or me being a hitter. But I know I want to be an NFL quarterback.
"Obviously it would be tremendous to follow in the footsteps of the Bo Jacksons and the Deion Sanders to play both sports professionally. That's just something I have to worry about when it comes."
Winston also gave Florida State fans a catchy slogan for the Seminoles' national title defense in 2014. The season will begin in the Dallas Cowboys' stadium against Oklahoma State, and Winston said the team is hoping to finish the season in the same building for the first College Football Playoff national title game.
"That's our little slogan -- from Dallas to Dallas," Winston said via the Associated Press. "Hopefully, we'll end up in the last game."
There is a good chance "from Dallas to Dallas" will be on a t-shirt soon. It will fit much better than Florida State's other option, "from Dallas to Tallahassee to Raleigh to Tallahassee to Syracuse to Tallahassee to Louisville to Tallahassee to Miami to Tallahassee to Charlotte to New Orleans-or-Pasadena to Dallas."
