Florida's loss will reportedly be Notre Dame's gain.

After announcing earlier this month that he would be transferring away from the Gators for his final year of eligiblity, veteran corner Cody Riggs will enroll at Notre Dame and play for the Irish in 2014, SI.com reported Wednesday.

"Notre Dame is the perfect fit me for academically and football-wise," Riggs told reporter Pete Thamel.

Riggs will be a fifth-year senior and business school student in South Bend, where as a graduate student he will be immediately eligible. He told Thamel earlier this month that his decision was strictly related to his academics and had nothing to do with his 2013 move from safety to corner, but that was disputed at the time by the Gainesville Sun's Pat Dooley:

Regardless of Riggs' motivations, what's not under dispute is that the Irish are getting an experienced, SEC-seasoned, highly successful defensive back who should be able to start -- and shine -- immediately. Riggs started 26 games for Florida over the course of three seasons, playing both corner and safety, and was a critical member of secondaries that finished second in FBS opponent's passer rating allowed in 2012 and eighth in 2013. He started all 12 games for the Gators in 2013.
