Kendal Thompson didn't wait long to settle on his transfer destination.

The son of former Oklahoma quarterback Charles Thompson announced his departure from Norman in late January, following a redshirt sophomore season in which he made only two appearances and attempted only 13 passes as the Sooners' second- or third-string quarterback. His new school made his landing spot official on Twitter Wednesday:

Thompson has two seasons of eligibility remaining and will be eligible to play immediately if he graduates from Oklahoma as scheduled in May.

Thompson will face serious competition for the Utes' starting job if incumbent Travis Wilson remains healthy; the rising junior was cleared for spring practice this week after a fall concussion revealed a pre-existing condition and ended his streak of 21 consecutive apperances to begin his Utah career. Fellow junior Adam Schulz also appeared in six games for the Utes in 2013.

Thompson was expected to compete for the Sooners' job in 2013, but broke his foot in fall camp and watched Trevor Knight emerge in the team's Sugar Bowl upset of Alabama as its starter for the forseeable future.
