Michael Brewer has decided on a transfer destination, announcing on Twitter that he plans to attend Virginia Tech in the fall. Brewer is scheduled to graduate from Texas Tech in May, allowing him to be eligible immediately in 2014.

CBSSports.com's Jeremy Fowler confirmed an upcoming visit to Blacksburg for Brewer after the quarterback was blocked from transferring to any Big 12 schools. Brewer stated his case to the Texas Tech Athletics Council, requesting the opportunity to play close to home and attend graduate programs in the state of Texas. His appeal was denied unanimously by the school.

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer has named fifth-year senior Mark Leal as the leading quarterback heading into spring practice, but Brewer will likely have an opportunity to compete for the starting job when he arrives in Blacksburg. Leal has seen some occasional playing time as Logan Thomas' backup, but Thomas has been in control of the starting quarterback job since he took it from Tyrod Taylor in 2011.
