Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan will be charged with three misdemeanors stemming from an alleged assault that took place on Dec. 1, according to The Ann Arbor News.

The paper reports that court records show Lewan is scheduled to be arraigned on April 8 when he will be charged with one count of aggravated assault and two counts of assault or assault and battery.

The confrontation took place around 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, 2013 in Ann Arbor, less than 12 hours after Michigan lost to Ohio State to finish the regular season. Two Ohio State fans reported that they had been assaulted, which led to the police investigating what role Lewan allegedly played in the incident. That investigation concluded this month.

Detective Lt. Robert Pfannes told the Ann Arbor News that Lewan is the only person "who is going to be charged at this time."

Lewan addressed the alleged assault before Michigan's bowl game, saying that he was trying to break up a fight.

“I wasn't in any fight of any kind,” said Lewan at a press conference in December. “I was actually breaking something up and some guy said that I slugged him. But that's not who I am off the field, that's not the kind of person I am. I might seem that way because of the way I play football, but that's not who I am as a person.”
