Indiana WR released from hospital after near-drowning

By Jerry Hinnen | College Football Writer

Indiana wide receiver Isaac Griffith was discharged from a Sarasota, Fla., hospital Sunday, the Associated Press reported. Griffith had been hospitalized March 17 after being caught in a rip current off the Florida Gulf Coast.

Sarasota Memorial Hospital spokeswoman Kim Savage confirmed to the AP that Griffith had been released and that he and his family would be returning to Indiana. She said Griffith is expected to make a full recovery.

A friend saved the 19-year-old Griffith after he became caught in the rip current, performing CPR until emergency personnel arrived. Griffith had been kept in a medically induced coma initially to allow his lungs to recover from the accident.

Griffith's father Shannon Griffith, the coach at Division III Manchester University, updated the situation on Twitter:

Griffith is a redshirt freshman from Fort Wayne, Ind.
