Missouri defensive tackle Matt Hoch, a starter in 13 games during the Tigers' SEC East title run of 2013, left Saturday's scrimmage with an ankle injury. According to the senior defensive lineman, the injury was bad enough to require surgery.
What a bittersweet day today. Passed the praxis but also severely broke the bone in my ankle at the scrimmage. Surgery tomorrow.— Matt Hoch (@HokedEm89) April 5, 2014
Hoch recorded one pass breakup in the scrimmage, per the Columbia Tribune, before suffering the injury. With Michael Sam, the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and Kony Ealy off to the NFL, the Tigers will be counting on Hoch and fellow senior Markus Golden to step up on the defensive line.
Missouri has not made an official announcement regarding Hoch's status, but surgery will likely sideline him for the rest of spring practice. The Tigers will host the annual Black & Gold spring game on Saturday, April, 19.
