As a football program, Arkansas State is no stranger when it comes to unique ideas for raising funds; after all, these are the same Red Wolves who once gave away a $1,500 deer blind, temporarily set up as an in-stadium "private suite" at a 2011 game, as part of a ticket drive.
But this time, the Red Wolves have gotten even more creative. Click here, and you can bid on eBay for the right to serve as Arkansas State's head coach at their 2014 spring game. From the item description:
Want to be the Head Coach of the Red Wolves at the 2014 Spring Football Game?
Your Coaching Experience will include:
•Head Coach for the game on Friday, April 18.
•Give the pregame and halftime talk.
•You choose whether your team 'goes for it' or punts on 4th down.
•You get to call for the deep ball, trick play, run or pass, blitz, etc.
•On headset with the staff throughout the entire game.
•Winning Coach will receive a Powerade bath (and bragging rights)!
•Photos of your Coaching Experience.
This experience is available for the 2014 Arkansas State Spring Game at 7pm, Friday, April 18 for onsite pick-up only the day of the event. The experience does not include any travel expenses, hotel or meals.
The best part is that becoming the Arkansas State head coach for a day is "for on-site pick-up only." Sorry, they're not going to relocate the game to your backyard -- even for the current $2,500 price tag.
Here's a tweet from first-year Red Wolves head coach (is there any other kind on Jonesboro these days?) Blake Anderson:
We gotta say: 2,500 bucks isn't cheap, for if this was our team, it would still seem a perfectly reasonable price to write and deliver the best possible "Win one (against the rest of our team) for the Gipper" speech. We've all got ideas, right? Get to it, Red Wolves supporters.
