Former Oregon coach and current Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly has named Will McKamey an honorary member of the Eagles. McKamey, a Navy slotback, died March 26 days after collapsing during a Navy practice.

Kelly visited Navy practice on Saturday to make the announcement to McKamey's teammates.

“It really means a lot that someone of Chip Kelly's stature would take the time to come to Annapolis and honor Will in that way,” Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo told the Capital Gazette. “That Coach Kelly wanted to do something special on behalf of Will, something to uplift his family, shows what a class act he is.”

Kelly presented Niumatalolo with an Eagles jersey bearing McKamey's name and No. 41, which was McKamey's number with the Midshipmen. The jersey will be given to McKamey's parents.

McKamey collapsed while performing drills during a Navy practice on March 22. He was airlifted to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where doctors performed surgery to relieve bleeding and swelling in his brain. He slipped into a coma and never regained conciousness.
