Baylor's rise into a Big 12 title contender under Art Briles has shaken up the status quo in the conference. The Bears won the league title last season with a with a 30-10 win against Texas, and the changing of the guard still doesn't sit well with Longhorns linebacker Steve Edmond.
"We could have won the conference," Edmond told reporters at Texas' spring game on Saturday. "Even though I didn't get a chance to play in the Baylor game, I feel like we should have beat Baylor. I really don't like Baylor. I still think they're trash."
It should be noted that Baylor has won three of its past four games against Texas, but that wouldn't stop Edmond from his verbal assault.
His comments came after a reporter asked if new Texas coach Charlie Strong can turn the program around following two disappointing seasons.
"I'm mad as I can be. I knew we were a better team than they were," Edmond said. "And then ... Baylor gets the win and acts like they had never won before. Even in high school, you know how to react when you win a game. It's not like you never won a game. I'm like, 'They won it, so what?' They still suck to me."
And for a response, we turn to former Baylor tight end Jordan Najvar:
Lol to Steve Edmonds comments. Sorry your 4/5 star rating on rivals doesn't translate to you beating Baylor.— Jordan Najvar (@jnaj18) April 19, 2014
Texas will host Baylor on Oct. 4 in Austin. It will be the Big 12 home opener for Charlie Strong and the game sits just one week before the Red River Rivalry/Shootout/Showdown (depending on your relationship with AT&T) against Oklahoma in Dallas.
