Fowler: Connette could replace Carr | Feldman: DeRuyter's extension guaranteed

Earlier this month, Jeremy Fowler reported that Fresno State might have a sucesssor to Derek Carr in former Duke quarterback Brandon Connette. On Thursday night, Connette took to Twitter to confirm his decision to join the Bulldogs.

Connette can play in the fall for Fresno State and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Duke allowed him to seek a transfer to get closer to home (Carona, Calif.) after his mother, Nancy, underwent surgery in December to remove a brain tumor.

In 2013, Connette was a regular contributor to the Blue Devils' short yardage and goal line offensive sets. He set a school record with 27 touchdowns (13 passing, 14 rushing) as Duke notched its first 10-win season in school history and earned a bid to the ACC Championship Game. Connette also holds the Duke record for career rushing touchdowns with 31.

Fresno State coach Tim DeRuyter, who finalized a five-year extension this week that is 100 percent guaranteed through 2018, is permitted from commenting on Connette at this time, but it is expected that the former Duke quarterback will be competing with junior Brian Burrell for the No. 1 job when he enrolls in classes in June.
