Nebraska LB Josh Banderas won't face felony in bike theft

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Nebraska linebacker Josh Banderas won't face felony charges for his role in the theft of seven bicycles.

Banderas and Nebraska track athlete Lucas Keifer were arrested by Lincoln police on May 12 in a pickup truck filled with bicycles and bolt cutters. According to the Associated Press, a witness saw the pair using the cutters to remove bikes from racks near campus housing.

via the AP:

Lancaster County Attorney Joe Kelly said Monday night that Banderas will enter a pre-trial diversion program rather than face charges in the theft of seven bicycles last week. Banderas is eligible for diversion because he has no prior felony convictions.

Nebraska coach Bo Pelini has yet to comment on the issue. As long as Banderas completes the diversion program, the felony charges will not be re-instated. Keifer's case remains open.

Banderas started four games for the Huskers as a freshman in 2013, making 28 tackles. Both he and Keifer attended Lincoln Southwest High School.
