Redshirt freshman running back Malin Jones has been granted a release from Northwestern and will transfer to another program, head coach Pat Fitzgerald announced Friday.
"Redshirt freshman running back Malin Jones recently requested, and was granted, his release from Northwestern to seek opportunities at another institution," Fitzgerald said in an official statement released by the school. "All of us at Northwestern would like to thank Malin for his contributions to our football family over the last two seasons, and we wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
Jones recorded just three carries and one reception in eight games of action last season, but entered the program as one of the top prospects in the 2012 recruiting class. The 6-foot, 200-pound back from Joliet, Ill. also had offers from Illinois, Iowa, Louisville and Notre Dame.
