Penn State announced Thursday that it sold out the entire allotment of student tickets for the 2014 season, the first of the James Franklin era in Happy Valley.

Franklin's impact on the Penn State program has already been visible on the recruiting trail and in the response from fans during his offseason speaking engagements across Pennsylvania. It is not uncommon for Penn State to sell out its student tickets, but according to the school the freshman class -- we assume the freshman get the table scraps in this process -- sold out its tickets in just six minutes.

"I've heard that our student section is the best in the nation and I got a preview during the spring game, but to see the passion our students have for Penn State football even during this week's sale is unbelievable," James Franklin. "To have 21,000-plus students supporting our team each home game from the time the players first take the field until the victory bell rings is such a huge advantage. When we return from Ireland after our opener vs. UCF, I know we'll be backed by the best students in the nation, who will join the rest of the Penn State family to pack Beaver Stadium 107K strong."

In total, more than 21,000 student tickets were purchased in a matter of hours. Penn State's home schedule includes Ohio State (under the lights on Oct. 25), Michigan State, Northwestern, Maryland, Temple, Akron and UMass.

The Nittany Lions will kick off the 2014 season against UCF in Dublin on Aug. 30.
