WATCH LIST: UCLA's Myles Jack, all-purpose stars eye Hornung Award

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Watch List Week kicked off Monday, with the Hornung Award joining the Maxwell Award and Bednarik Award on the rollout. We'll be posting at least one of these lengthy roll calls each day this week, getting our minds set for football seasons before conference media days get started later this month.

The Hornung Award is given to the nation's best all-purpose player. The 2014 watch list is headlined by UCLA sophomore linebacker Myles Jack, a fan favorite after his productive move to running back later in the Bruins' 2013 campaign. In terms of "classic" all-purpose players -- players with an impact on special teams -- the early favorites here include Stanford wide receiver Ty Montgomery and UAB wide receiver Jamarcus Nelson.

Here's how the list breaks down by conferences:

  • Big Ten -- 10
  • ACC -- 10
  • Pac-12 -- 7
  • Big 12 -- 5
  • SEC -- 4
  • American -- 3
  • Mountain West -- 3
  • Sun Belt -- 2
  • Conference USA -- 2
  • MAC -- 1
