WATCH LIST: Lombardi Award watch list features 123 players

Lombardi Award watch list
Pitt's Aaron Donald won the Lombardi Award in 2013. (USATSI)

The funny thing about preseason watch lists is that they don't actually mean anything. Every year there's at least one award given to a player that wasn't on that award's preseason watch list.

Which means that just because you aren't on any of these lists doesn't mean you can't win the award. All you have to do is figure out a way to get on a college football team and begin playing well enough to deserve it. It's simple!

What I respect about the Lombardi Award's preseason watch list is that it includes just about every possible recipient in the game. The award, which is given to the best down lineman in college football - be they offensive or defensive, they just need to be near the line of scrimmage -- released its watch list on Monday and there are 123 players on it.

Heck, you might actually be on it after all. Congratulations.

Just look for your name on the list.
