UGA DL Jonathan Taylor charged with felony aggravated assault

By Chip Patterson | Staff Writer

Georgia defensive lineman Jonathan Taylor was arrested early Tuesday morning; his second arrest of the offseason.

According to the Athens Banner-Herald, Taylor was charged with felony aggravated assault/family violence after authorities determined he was the "primary aggressor" in a domestic violence incident on campus.

Taylor was one of four players charged with fraud in March for cashing student stipend checks twice. He entered a pre-trial intervention program that includes community service, but any other arrest violates the terms of that agreement.

The initial details of the Tuesday incident suggest that Taylor's status with the Bulldogs is in jeopardy.

via the Athens Banner-Herald:

University of Georgia police and emergency medical services were dispatched at 2:47 a.m. to meet a possible victim at Busbee Hall. The call came from a third party. Police met with the victim and third party at Busbee.

There was evidence that the female victim had been "possibly strangled by the offender," in the incident in Taylor's dorm room, Williamson said. There was evidence that the victim and another individual had been involved in an argument in McWhorter Hall, police said. Officers determined an established relationship and "co-habitation" with Taylor and the victim.

The victim is a UGA student not enrolled in summer school.

Taylor is expected to be a backup nose tackle in 2014 and is currently listed third on the team's depth chart.
