Texas A&M announced Monday that defensive lineman Gavin Stansbury has left the program for "personal reasons."

Stansbury led the Aggies in sacks (3.0) in 2013 and was expected to help boost production on a defensive line that struggled at times a season ago. His departure, along with the offseason dismissals of nose tackle Isaiah Golden and linebacker Darian Claiborne, leave the Aggies with several question marks on defense heading into 2014.

"While we will miss Gavin being a part of our program, there is more to life than football," Sumlin said in a statement released by the school. "We wish him the best as he focuses on the personal issues ahead of him."

Stansbury was charged with misdemeanor assault in April when a Rice University student accused him of pouring a beer on his head and punching him in the face. Stansbury's attorney said it was a case of mistaken identity.

Sumlin also announced Monday that defensive back Victor Davis has been suspended after he was arrested and charged with shoplifting in Rosenberg, Texas.
