More Sooners: NCAA denies waiver for WR Dorial Green-Beckham to play in 2014

When it was announced that Oklahoma would suspend freshman running back Joe Mixon for the entire 2014 season, some wondered if Mixon would opt to transfer out of the program to seek more immediate playing time.

Mixon answered that question in his own way on Friday, taking to Twitter to confirm his loyalty to head coach Bob Stoops and the Sooners' program.

In a school release announcing Mixon's suspension for the 2014 season, Stoops and athletic director Joe Castiglione said that the freshman running back could remain at OU and be eligible for financial aid "with appropriate conditions."

Mixon was charged with one misdemeanor count of an act resulting in gross injury for his role in an altercation with another OU student in July. According to the affidavit of probable cause, the freshman running back and Amelia Rae Molitor, 20, were engaged in a verbal and physical altercation at Pickelman's Gourmet Cafe in Norman.

Mixon pleaded not guilty to the charge and is expected back in court on Sept. 23.

The former 5-star prospect from California did not report to camp with the rest of the Sooners due to an ongoing investigation regarding the incident. Mixon was set to compete for snaps in a talented backfield with Keith Ford and Alex Ross.
