You can turn off the alarm klaxons in Columbia now, thanks.

Steve Spurrier said last week that starting tailback and dark horse Heisman candidate Mike Davis hadn't practiced and that he wasn't sure if "he'd even be able to start or not" in South Carolina's season opener vs. Texas A&M this Thursday. Sunday afternoon, though, Spurrier sounded a much more positive note.

"Hopefully Mike will be full speed, 100 percent by Thursday. We think he will be," Spurrier told the media, per The Big Spur, "but Brandon Wilds and Shon Carson have both had really good preseason practices."

Davis rushed for an impressive 1,183 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2013 despite struggling down the stretch with nagging injuries, meaning his health will no doubt be closely scutinized by both Gamecock coaches and fans -- and that Spurrier really won't hesitate to look to Wilds, Carson or redshirt freshman David Williams if Davis isn't completely healthy.

But given the already immense stakes for Thursday's game -- with Georgia on tap in Week 3, a loss to the Aggies could help have the Gamecocks out of the East race by mid-September -- expect Davis to play and see at least 15-to-20 carries.
