QB Cody Kessler undergoes toe procedure, plans to play vs. Stanford

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

USC quarterback Cody Kessler missed the beginning of the Trojans practice on Tuesday, but Steve Sarkisian indicated that the Trojans signal-caller, who was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, should be good to go for Saturday's showdown at Stanford.

According to Sarkisian, Kessler had a "deal with his toe" that was a nagging issue during USC's 52-13 win against Fresno State. Because of scheduling issues, Kessler was not able to undergo a minor procedure until Tuesday morning and missed the beginning of Tuesday's practice.

USC did not elaborate on the injury, or the procedure, but Sarkisian did not expect the issue to limit Kessler as the team prepares for a huge Pac-12 tilt against the defending conference champs.

Injury-faking allegations "in the past"

Sarkisian and Stanford coach David Shaw developed a rivalry during Sark's time at Washington, including a back-and-forth last October regarding players faking injuries. Both coaches said Tuesday on the Pac-12 teleconference that their relationship was professional and the event was in the past.

"We never talked about it again," Shaw said. "No animosity whatsoever."
