  •

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) Elijah McGuire rushed for 137 yards and 3 touchdowns to lead Louisiana-Lafayette over Nicholls State 70-7. The Ragin' Caguns celebrated their 500th all-time win (500-523-34) in 113 seasons of organized football.

Louisiana-Lafayette (1-2) set a modern-day school record for points, an all-time school record for rushing touchdowns (8), and tied their all-time mark for total touchdowns (10).

Nicholls State (1-2) was simply overmatched by the Ragin' Caguns ground game. Louisiana-Lafayette rolled up 456 yards rushing and had five backs score rushing touchdowns in the rout.

The Caguns scored touchdowns on nine of their first 10 possessions. Alonzo Harris busted a 65-yard run to start the touchdown parade and they never slowed down. Louisiana also benefited from a 58-yard interception return for a touchdown by Justin Anderson.

The Colonels' lone score came toward the end of the first half as Tuskani Figaro hit Demon Bolt for a 36-yard touchdown strike.
