ACC class of 2013 team rankings

By Bryan Fischer | Blogger

We're still over seven months away from National Signing Day, but that doesn't mean we can't check in and see how each conference is doing on the recruiting trail. Given how accelerated the entire process has become, the team rankings are a nice check up with plenty of time to make a move up (or down) the list. Without further ado, here are the team rankings for the ACC:

1. Florida State

Commitments: 12 total, two in the top 100

Top pledge: E.J. Levenberry (22)

This isn't a class that just jumps out at you, but if you look deeper, it's remarkably good from top to bottom at this point in June. Ryan Green is a terrific running back who might be the best in the state, and even the lesser known recruits like Jesus Wilson have a chance to be solid contributors.

2. Clemson

Commitments: 11, two in the top 100

Top pledge: Robert Nkemdiche (1)
The Tigers landed the country's top player, and a consensus one at that, so there's not much more that needs to be said. This class has a shot at one of the top front seven groups in the country with Elijah Daniel and Dorian O'Daniel in the fold as well.

3. Virginia Tech

Commitments: 12, two in the top 100

Top pledge: Bucky Hodges (73)

Talent development is always a big part of what the Hokies do, but they've pulled commitments out of some talented in-state recruits like Hodges and linebacker Holland Fisher, the latter of whom has impressed on the camp circuit.

4. Virginia

Commitments: 11

Top pledge: Tim Harris
There are not the top 100 guys like the Cavaliers pulled in with the last class, but there's still time. Harris is a guy that could play early and the staff has done a good job grabbing speed and working their talent base.

5. Maryland

Commitments: 9

Top pledge: Derwin Gray
A week ago the Terps were not in this spot but adding Gray and Cavon Walker is a big boost. Quarterback Shane Cockerille has been a bright spot on the Elite 11 tour.

6. North Carolina

Commitments: 10

Top pledge: Brian Walker
Quarterback Mitch Trubisky and running back Khris Francis are diamonds in the rough for a class that is solid but lacking an impact player.

7. Georgia Tech

Commitments: 8
Top pledge: Shamire Devine
A pair of big Tri-Cities (Ga.) offensive linemen are a huge boost to this group, which also has one of the top kickers in the state.

8. Miami

Commitments: 6, one in top 100

Top pledge: Kevin Olsen
Some decommitments have dropped this class, but it still has a center piece on offense in Olsen and on defense in defensive tackle Keith Bryant.

9. Pitt

Commitments: 7

Top pledge: Corey Clement
There are a few prospects in this class, but outside of Clement and tight end Scott Orndoff, several are likely headed toward a redshirt.

10. N.C. State

Commitments: 9

Top pledge: Da'Wan Hunte
The pair of commits from Florida are a good pick up, as is all-Name teamer Pharoah McKever.

11. Duke

Commitments: 9

Top pledge: Johnell Barnes
Offensive lineman Austin Davis is a great snag if the Blue Devils can keep him and Barnes is small but could be effective in the offense.

12. Wake Forest

Commitments: 9

Top pledge: Cory Helms
Four offensive linemen for the Demon Deacons already in addition to a quarterback is a nice start for 2013.

13. Syracuse

Commitments: 7

Top pledge: Tyler Provo
Provo and quarterback Zach Allen aren't a bad combo on offense but work still needs to be done.

14. Boston College

Commitments: 6

Top pledge: Andrew Isaacs
Not surprisingly, the smallest class in the conference is at the bottom, especially when the group doesn't have much quality to it.
