Tight end Travis Johnson commits to Miami

Tampa (Fla.) wide recevier/tight end Travis Johnson already held several big offers but still made his way down to the Al Golden summer camp over the weekend to compete for one from Miami. The talented pass catcher ended up earning an offer from the Hurricanes and made his commitment soon afterward on Monday.

"When I was down at Miami for the camp I balled out and went out and did my thing," Johnson told InsideTheU.com. "Coach [Brendan] Carroll said he loved how fluid I was in and out of my cuts, so when they offered me today I didn't waste any time and I committed on the spot."

The 6-4, 208-pounder also considered offers from Clemson, Mississippi State, USF and Vanderbilt, among others. Ranked as the 16th overall wideout by MaxPreps, Johnson will continue to add weight and will wind up playing tight end at Miami, where was attracted to the program's history of churning out players at that position to the NFL.

"The legacy that they have and the way they have talented guys who are hard workers is what impressed me most," he said. "I think the coaches saw those attributes in me and I am looking forward to continuing that legacy."

Johnson becomes the third commitment at tight end for Miami and ninth overall. Last season as a junior at Tampa Jesuit, he racked up 656 yards and six touchdowns.
