Linebacker Danny Mattingly heads to Notre Dame

By Bryan Fischer | Blogger

Notre Dame reached into the Pacific Northwest for the program's latest pledge after Spokane (Wash.) linebacker Danny Mattingly committed to the Irish for a big defensive addition in a class that already has several.

"Goin to Notre Dame," Mattingly said on his Facebook page. "Couldn't be happier with the opportunities I've been blessed with! South Bend's gonna be my new home! Go Irish!"

The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder also held offers from Oklahoma, Alabama and Oregon among others but committed to Notre Dame while on an unofficial visit to South Bend on Tuesday.

Mattingly becomes the 15th commitment for the Irish recruiting class of 2013. One of the top players in the state of Washington, the talented linebacker is also the nephew of Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly.
