LSU added another weapon on offense on Monday evening when Maxpreps Top 100 Lake Charles (La.) tight end DeSean Smith ended the recruiting process early and committed to the Tigers.

"Coach (Les) Miles was very excited, and he said I made his day and all that," Smith told 247Sports. "He couldn't stop laughing and just kept saying this was very big for me to give him the news. Coach Miles said there really wasn't much he could say other than that I made his day."

The 6-foot-4, 225-pounder had offers from most programs, including Alabama, Florida State and Clemson. Ranked 68th overall in the class of 2013, Smith couldn't hold out on committing and staying in-state.

"I've been waiting to do it, and I just couldn't wait any longer," Smith said. "It's been hard to wait for two years to make a decision, and the last month or so I really thought about it a lot. After all of that, I said it's time to get it over with."

Smith is the 18th commit for 2013 and is the program's second top-100 recruit. The four-star is also the second TE to commit to the Tigers.
