Northwestern lands highly touted quarterback Matt Alviti

Northwestern has had productive quarterbacks in the past few years but none have come into Evanston as highly touted as Park Ridge (Ill.) signal-caller Matt Alviti, who committed to the Wildcats on Saturday.

"It just came down to the right feeling in my heart," Alviti told 247Sports. "Coach (Pat) Fitz(gerald) and Coach (Mick) McCall and the whole coaching staff at Northwestern, it felt like I was at home at Northwestern. The offense they run is a great fit for me."

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder also held offers from programs such as Boston College, Nebraska and Notre Dame but picked Northwestern based on more than just the football program.

"Definitely their academics and just the way the coaches treat you there and what it is to be a Wildcat," Alviti said. "The guys you're going to surround yourself in the locker room with are great people. It's close to home and my family is going to be able to come and watch me play."

Last season as a junior, the dual-threat quarterback had over 2,800 all-purpose yards and 41 touchdowns. Alviti becomes Northwestern's first class of 2013 commitment.
