Purdue lands in-state quarterback Danny Etling

Purdue is on the recruiting board for the class of 2013 and the Boilermakers are off to a great start by landing a commitment from Terre Haute (Ind.) quarterback Danny Etling on Tuesday.

"They were pretty excited about it," Etling told 247Sports. "Coach Hope said I almost gave them a heart attack waiting so long. They were very ecstatic about it. They were into it and happy for me."

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound signal-caller picked Purdue over offers from Iowa and Colorado. Etling's cousin is a former Purdue linebacker and that combined with the program's history at the position made it a done deal for the Boilermakers.

"Drew Brees is one of my favorite quarterbacks of all time," Etling said. "So why not follow in his footsteps."

Etling threw for 1,537 yards and nine touchdowns last season as a junior.
