Marqui Hawkins latest to join Florida Gators' class of 2013

Columbus (Ga.) athlete Marqui Hawkins could play on either side of the ball in college but everything seemed to line up for him to play wide receiver at Florida, where he committed to Monday night.

"I knew the depth chart was low at receiver and I could come in and play early," Hawkins told Rivals.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder picked Florida over Clemson and held offers from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee among others. Hawkins' high school has sent its fair share of talent to the SEC over the past few years but he'll make a little history if he does indeed end up in Gainesville next fall.

"My coach has been telling me it's a great school," Hawkins said. "And I wanted to be the first player at Carver that went to Florida."

Hawkins becomes commitment number 16 for the Gators' class of 2013. Last season as a junior he caught 31 passes for 635 yards and six scores.
