Florida State picks up pledge from cornerback Marquez White

Florida State coaches are likely headed into a holiday weekend with spirits running high after picking up a commitment from Dothan (Ala.) defensive back Marquez White on Friday afternoon.

"Hopefully I can play my freshman year," White told Scout. "It's a home away from home. I have family members who went to Florida State. I am very happy right now."

The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder held offers from Ole Miss, Memphis and several others. Although White was drawing interest from plenty of big name schools, an offer from Florida State early Friday morning was enough for him to end the recruiting process before the summer.

"I know all about the history and great players who played at Florida State -- like Deion Sanders," he said. "They have put a lot of players (in the NFL). I know it's a great school."

White becomes the Seminoles' ninth class-of-2013 commitment and third defensive back.
