SEC class of 2013 team rankings

By Bryan Fischer | Blogger

We're still over seven months away from National Signing Day, but that doesn't mean we can't check in and see how each conference is doing on the recruiting trail. Given how accelerated the entire process has become, the team rankings are a nice check up with plenty of time to make a move up (or down) the list. Without further ado, here are the team rankings for the SEC, which has 10 teams in the overall top 25:

1. Alabama

Commitments: 18 total, eight in the top 100

Top pledge: Reuben Foster (3)

Hardly anybody should be surprised to see the Crimson Tide occupy the top spot in the conference and overall class of 2013 team rankings. This group has the No. 3 overall player (and a terrific fit in Nick Saban's defensive system) in Foster to go along with two more top 100 players than any other program in the country.

2. Florida

Commitments: 18, three in the top 100

Top pledge: Ahmad Fulwood (9)
The Gators have put together another top-notch class by grabbing some of the best in-state recruits like Fulwood, running back Kelvin Taylor, defensive tackle Caleb Brantley and DB Nick Washington, among others.

3. Georgia

Commitments: 19, four in the top 100

Top pledge: Tray Matthews (26)

This might be the biggest class in terms of numbers in the conference come Signing Day and is already up there around the halfway point. There's a nice mix of guys who can contribute right away and others that look primed to compete after a redshirt year.

4. Texas A&M

Commitments: 20, one in the top 100

Top pledge: Derrick Griffin (76)
Before even coaching a game with the Aggies, Kevin Sumlin has won a few battles to secure some wins on the recruiting trail. This class has a ton of speed, something they'll need as A&M adjusts to life in the SEC.

5. Auburn

Commitments: 13, two in the top 100

Top pledge: Dee Liner (19)
A smaller class right now, this has one of the best defensive line groups in the country with Liner and Carl Lawson. Heavy on defense, it will be interesting to see what offensive guys join the fold between now and Signing Day.

6. LSU

Commitments: 16, one in the top 100

Top pledge: Ethan Pocic (48)
The Tigers have commitments from players in eight different states and have addressed their need for quarterbacks by taking two this year.

7. South Carolina

Commitments: 17
Top pledge: D.J. Park (23)
A good group of linemen on both sides of the ball already committed and linebackers Gerald Turner and Matt Rolin should be a solid pair to build around on defense.

8. Vanderbilt

Commitments: 13, one in top 100

Top pledge: Johnathon McCrary (56)
Quite the impression James Franklin has made on the recruiting trail, landing a raw but talented quarterback like McCrary and several other nice weapons on offense.

9. Missouri

Commitments: 13

Top pledge: Chase Abbington
The Tigers have done a nice job of protecting their borders and landing in-state guys like Abbington and linebacker Nick Ramirez.

10. Mississippi State

Commitments: 10

Top pledge: Cord Sandberg
The 10th best class in the SEC is good enough to be in the top 25 nationally. Sandberg is a nice fit with what the Bulldogs run offensively.

11. Ole Miss

Commitments: 12

Top pledge: Antonio Allen
The Ole Miss staff may have more offers out than any other program in the country but has also landed a few good ones like Allen and running back Mark Dodson.

12. Tennessee

Commitments: 12

Top pledge: Kameron Miles
Miles is a great addition, but there are a few others the Vols could have waited on and evaluated further.

13. Arkansas

Commitments: 9

Top pledge: Tyler Cogswell
The scandal hasn't completly killed recruiting for the Razorbacks, but it hasn't put them in a great position either. Solid effort so far for a staff in a tough position, though.

14. Kentucky

Commitments: 4

Top pledge: Alvonte Bell
Long time until Signing Day, but it would probably be an upset if the Wildcats move out of this spot anytime soon.
