Wide receiver Levonte Whitfield commits to Florida State

Orlando (Fla.) wide receiver Levonte 'Kermit' Whitfield had been one of the stars of the camp circuit late this summer and saw his recruitment take off as a result. With numerous opportunities to play at the next level, the talented athlete made his commitment on Monday to Florida State to end the process and concentrate on his senior season.

“Big time players make big time decisions,” Whitfield told Noles247. “Opportunities come once in a lifetime and that's why I chose this school.”

The 5-foot-9, 160-pounder picked the school over Ohio State, Miami, Clemson and several others.

“I like that it is close to home,” Whitfield said. “I like the atmosphere there. I like the way they would use me. I know people there (cousin Marvin Bracy).”

Whitfield is the 18th commitment for Florida State and fourth wide receiver for the program. A speedy option out of the slot, he had 326 yards and four touchdowns receiving last year. Formerly committed to Miami, Whitfield also won the state 100 meter dash title in 2011.
