Report: NCAA looking at top linebacker Reuben Foster

By Bryan Fischer | Blogger

UPDATE: Both Rivals and ESPN have clarified the AJC report to state that Foster was meeting with the Alabama High School Athletic Association and not the NCAA.

The No. 3 overall player and top linebacker in the class of 2013, Reuben Foster, will meet with NCAA investigators on Monday, according to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“They [the NCAA] are talking with Reuben and me,” Anita Paige, Foster's mother, said. “They want to make sure there was nothing illegal done to get us down here, or anything like that. They want to make sure there wasn't a college booster involved.

“No, there was not a booster involved or anybody from the college involved. There was nothing illegal.”

Foster transferred schools in the offseason after Troup High head coach Charles Flowers was fired. His move to Auburn, about 40 miles away and across Georgia state lines, raised eyebrows considering the linebacker was a longtime Alabama commitment.

“I picked Auburn High School for us because it's a better school system for academics," Paige said of the move. "Reuben only has one more year of high school, but it was my baby girl [Kayla, 12 years old] who I was more worried about. I want them to get a good education.”

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Foster flipped his commitment to the Tigers in the middle of July.

"I have a lot of respect for Alabama and the coaches and all of the other people and fans," Foster said at the time. "At the end of the day, I feel Auburn University is the place for me and my family and I am 100 percent confident in my final decision. I feel great about my decision and I'm excited to get started."
