Smoke but no fire: Banished Barnett blackballed
Until she does, the reputations of 100 or so players from that 1999 team are soiled. They're suspects because Hnida won't say otherwise.
Not one teammate from that time supported Hnida's claims of physical and verbal abuse, not one confidant. The Boulder district attorney didn't see enough to proceed.
That doesn't mean a rape didn't occur. It does mean Barnett's career shouldn't be over.
"When you look at where everything was and the uproar that was created and the number of people that were involved and the level that it got to ..." Barnett said, pausing. "Talk about smoke and no fire." Walk into Barnett's Scottsdale home. A white marble buffalo catches your eye. "Gary Barnett:" a label reads, "Above all else, integrity. You have taught us and we have grown."
The buffalo was given to Barnett by his final staff at CU the same month he was fired.
Every one of those coaches has a job.
Barnett still can't get an interview.
