Red River Rivalry: Oklahoma vs. Texas recent history

Oct. 17
Dallas, Tex.
Noon ET, ABC

2008

Texas 45, Oklahoma 35: Mack Brown can finally say he's done something in the Texas-Oklahoma game that Bob Stoops hasn't -- pulled off an upset. And it's a big one. Brown's Longhorns grabbed some second-half momentum by foiling a fake punt, then Colt McCoy and the defense built on it, carrying No. 5 Texas. The Longhorns outscored the Sooners 25-7 after stopping the trickery, and their half of the record crowd of 92,182 fans loved every bit of it. At game's end, the folks in burnt orange enjoyed the biggest postgame celebration in the 103-game history of this Red River Rivalry. With the win, Texas grabs the inside track in both the conference and national championship races. The last two teams to come out of this game unbeaten -- Oklahoma in 2004, Texas in 2005 -- went to the national title game. Game Recap

2007

Oklahoma 28, Texas 21: Since he's only 19 and was playing just his sixth college game, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford can be excused for thinking he can do things most quarterbacks wouldn't even try. Like calling an audible on third-and-14 from his own 12 amid the roar of Texas fans. Or going long on third down to a guy who spent the last few series getting treatment for a sore hamstring. Then again, Bradford is proving to be not-your-ordinary quarterback. Facing a tough foe in a hostile setting, Bradford looked as comfortable as he did in his record-setting first few games against overmatched opponents, throwing for 244 yards and three touchdowns and hardly making a mistake while steering the Sooners past the Longhorns. 2006

Texas 28, Oklahoma 10: Colt McCoy probably doesn't realize how quickly things have changed in the Texas-Oklahoma rivalry. Not long ago, the No. 7 Longhorns were the ones getting outhustled, outcoached and flat-out beat. Now, it's the No. 14 Sooners who are finding ways to lose. Adrian Peterson thought the ball bouncing off his hands meant an incomplete pass, not a fumbled lateral. Texas cornerback Aaron Ross wasn't sure, but scooped it up and scored just in case, and wound up with the touchdown that sealed the win. Game Recap | Parrish: McCoy's showing should erase doubt

2005

Texas 45, Oklahoma 12: The game was over, the "Eyes of Texas" had been sung and Vince Young was still on the run. The Texas Longhorns had finally beaten the Oklahoma Sooners -- stuck it to 'em, 45-12 -- and more than 30,000 people wearing burnt orange were on their feet turning five years of frustration into sheer joy. Young showed the Sooners how much he's developed since their last meeting, throwing three touchdown passes and guiding the No. 2 Longhorns to the victory. "We wanted them to feel everything we were feeling," Young said. "It was a great moment for all of us." Game Recap | Dodd: Texas coach walks tall

2004

Oklahoma 12, Texas 0: The Oklahoma Sooners found a new way to devastate the Texas Longhorns. Slowly. Painfully. And with a freshman plucked from East Texas doing most of the damage. In just his fifth college game, Adrian Peterson ran for 225 yards and made many big plays when No. 2 Oklahoma needed it most, helping the Sooners grind out a 12-0 victory over No. 5 Texas and stretch their winning streak in the storied rivalry to five straight. The Longhorns got shut out for the first time since November 1980, a run of 281 games that was the longest in the country. Game Recap | Dodd: Oklahoma's mastery of Texas borders on ridiculous

2003

Oklahoma 65, Texas 13: The Oklahoma Sooners have the drill down pat. They stomp rival Texas, send the Sooner Schooner circling the Cotton Bowl turf, then gather around the 20-yard line for a team photo with the scoreboard in the background. This one read 65-13, and it provided the No. 1 Sooners with plenty to celebrate. Jason White threw four touchdown passes, Mark Clayton set a school record with 190 yards receiving and the defense came up with six turnovers as Oklahoma handed No. 11 Texas the most lopsided loss in the history of their Red River rivalry. The Sooners had two touchdowns touchdowns in every quarter and stretches of 20 and 38 straight points. Game Recap

2002

Oklahoma 35, Texas 24: Just as the Red River shootout started to slip away from the Oklahoma Sooners, Quentin Griffin ran to the rescue -- and all over the Texas Longhorns. Griffin scooped up a loose ball and scored the go-ahead touchdown, ran 17 yards for the game-clinching score with 3:02 left and finished with a career-high 248 yards to carry the No. 2 Sooners past the No. 3 Longhorns 35-24. Coach Mack Brown fell to 2-7 against top-10 teams. Chris Simms was 12-of-26 for 156 yards with three interceptions and four sacks, including one on the game's final play. Game Recap | Dodd: Unlike Longhorns, Sooners know how to relax for big games
