LSU disputed a report that quarterback Ryan Perrilloux likely will miss the team's entire spring practice while indefinitely suspended.
Gannett News Service posted the report Wednesday, attributing the information to sports information director Michael Bonnette. Bonnette told CBSSports.com that, for now, Perrilloux would miss Friday's spring practice opener.
The quarterback was suspended indefinitely earlier this month after reportedly missing class and a meeting. There have been reports that Perrilloux missed classes because of the death of his father on Feb. 7.
This is the third time in 10 months Perrilloux has been suspended. He was expected to take over as starting quarterback for the defending national champions after being a key backup last season.
Coach Les Miles did not specifically address the length of Perrilloux's suspension during a Wednesday news conference to preview spring practice.
"He could rejoin the team but I don't know exactly what dates," Miles said. "Before spring, after spring, that's not the issue. The issue is doing the right thing in class, off the field."
Without Perrilloux, LSU is down to redshirt freshman Jarrett Lee and Harvard transfer Andrew Hatch as viable options at quarterback. Hatch has the most experience, having completed one pass last season. The No. 3 quarterback at the moment is T.C. McCartney, grandson of former Colorado coach Bill McCartney.
"My discipline is about team discipline," Miles said. "You take into an account a promise that was made on a mother's couch. You take into account the responsibility you have with your program. .... As a team member, (Perrilloux) is no longer part of the team in the short term. It's a very serious issue."
LSU's spring practice ends April 5.
