Former Duke star Allen passes away at 83

Presented by Epson

DURHAM, N.C. -- Lou Allen, a star tackle at Duke in the 1940s who played two seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has died. He was 83.

He died Thursday in his hometown of Greensboro.

Allen played for the Blue Devils from 1947-49 under coach Wallace Wade and was captain and MVP in his final season. He was one of three players in school history to earn all-Southern Conference honors three straight seasons.

The Steelers selected him in the fifth round of the 1950 NFL draft.
