Florida WR Harvin, LB Spikes to make debuts against Miami

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Receiver Percy Harvin and middle linebacker Brandon Spikes will make their season debuts for No. 5 Florida against Miami on Saturday.

Florida coach Urban Meyer said Wednesday he's unsure if the juniors, both of whom missed the season opener against Hawaii with right foot injuries, will start or how much they will play, but they will be part of the Gators' effort to snap a six-game losing streak to Miami.

"They'll play but how much depends on how they hang in there," Meyer said. "Percy was gimping around a little bit in practice but he went. Brandon looked fine to me today."

Harvin has been battling soreness in his right heel. He had offseason surgery to shave off part of his heel bone and had been unable to fully participate in practice until earlier this week.

Spikes suffered his foot injury during practice the week before the season opener. He wore a protective boot on his right foot when he was on the sideline last Saturday.
