NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- TCU's Drew Combs, a senior kickoff specialist, won the second annual Rudy Award.
Combs, born with a left arm that ends at the elbow, made the TCU team as a walk-on and started every game the past two seasons. He received the award Monday from Daniel "Rudy" Ruettiger during the American Football Coaches Association Convention.
"We established this award as a special way to honor and recognize college football players for the size of their hearts instead of the enormity of their stats," Ruettiger said.
Ruettiger, featured in the movie Rudy, had a sack in the only play of his career at Notre Dame.
Combs received a trophy and a $5,000 scholarship. Pittsburgh's Dan Cafaro and Oklahoma's Nic Harris were finalists and each received a $2,500 scholarship.
