Jury awards $225K to former Michigan DB Jackson

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Former Michigan player Marlin Jackson was awarded $225,000 in a lawsuit against a fellow student who claimed the football player assaulted him in 2003.

A Washtenaw County jury ruled Thursday that Jackson was defamed by Shahin Farokhrany.

Farokhrany said he was assaulted with a bottle at a party and sued Jackson for $10 million. Jackson countersued, saying a bottle was not used and the accusation hurt his reputation in NFL pre-draft interviews.

Jackson's attorney Ellis Freatman III told the Associated Press that the jury award is roughly equivalent to the difference in income from being picked one or two spots higher in the draft.

Jackson, a defensive back, was the Indianapolis Colts' first-round pick in 2005.
