NCAA denies Florida State WR Surrency appeal for another year

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The NCAA has denied Florida State receiver Corey Surrency's final appeal to play another year.

The decision Tuesday upheld an April ruling. It means the senior, who played just one year at Florida State, has used up his eligibility.

Coach Bobby Bowden said he was disappointed but that Florida State will do all it can to help Surrency get a chance to play professional football.

Surrency transferred from El Camino Community College in California last summer. He lost a year of eligibility because he played for the Florida Kings -- a South Florida semipro team -- after he turned 21 and before he went to El Camino.

Surrency caught 12 passes for 237 yards last season and tied for the team lead with four touchdown catches.
