Arkansas' Petrino reprimanded for publicly criticizing officials

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino has been reprimanded by the Southeastern Conference after publicly criticizing officials who worked his team's loss to Florida last weekend.

The league announced its action Thursday night, a day after saying the officiating crew from the Razorbacks' 23-20 loss would be suspended. The officials came under scrutiny after a personal foul call on Arkansas' Malcolm Sheppard in the fourth quarter. The league said there was no video evidence to support the call.

Petrino has been critical of the officials, although the league didn't specify which comments earned the reprimand.

First, I hope that Petrino gets his moneys worth and lets it all out since he fined.  Why not cuss a blue streak about it. It wont do any good and may get him in more trouble but I'll like Petrino more if he does.  Its like when a parent  stands next to a cuss jar at home and drops a twenty in it and goes off, you gotta smile.   Second thats strike two on th ...(more)

Thanks for saying what needed to be said, what would have otherwise been completely ignored and swept under the rug.  Thank you for saying what needed to be said in an environment where, apparently, there is absolutely zero accountability to anybody in particular.  Thank you for forcing Slive and the SEC to publicly acknowledge the gross mishandeling of SEC games, thus affecting their ou ...(more)

The way that Bobby Petrino left the Falcons shows what a DB of a human being he is, unwilling to live up to a commitment.  However, he is completely in the right on this one.  I have never seen a school get jobbed by officials the way that Arkansas was screwed last weekend.  It was obvious that this group had an agenda, namely to see to it that Florida did not emerge with a loss, in ...(more)

Petrino criticizes officials who cost his team the game, the officials get suspended for their terrible officiating that cost Petrino's team the game, and Petrino gets fined?  For what?  That crew blew three calls when Florida was moving to tie the game up that resulted in close to 50 yards in penalties.  They called pass interference on an Arkansas player when he turned around to l ...(more)

bottom line...LSU and Florida each have a win that was a gift from these officials (which the SEC has basically admitted) and its wrong for one of the teams which was victimized to point it out?

So the coach is wrong to criticize the officials that the league suspends for the very calls he complains about?

Ok, how can this be possible? The SEC suspends the officials for poor judgement, and then reprimand Petrino for critical of the officials the next day. Petrino has not said anything about the officiating all week. When Petrino was asked about the officials at different press conferences he simply stated the the fifth amendment doesn't apply to head coachs. After that he wouldn't answer any qu ...(more)

If the officiating is that bad and you publicly suspend the officials, why is the coach being reprimanded. I know there are "sportsmanship" rules to protect officials from being blasted (their job is tough and they do make mistakes). The problem is that Petrino was right and the league knows he was right. The whole world knows he was right especially since video after the fact shows that ...(more)
