SEC doles out discipline in wake of Mullen's comments -- to Mullen

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen was reprimanded by the Southeastern Conference for criticizing the replay official who worked the Bulldogs' game against Florida.

Commissioner Mike Slive said on Monday in a statement released by the league that Mullen violated the SEC code of ethics.

On Sunday, Mullen said the replay official who worked the Bulldogs' 29-19 loss to Florida should be disciplined for not overturning an interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter by Gators linebacker Dustin Doe, who might have fumbled before reaching the goal line.

The replay official listed for the game in Starkville on Saturday night was Dan Dembinski.

Wake up SEC, where theres smoke theres probably fire. Its not a coicidence that about 5-6 different SEC coaches have had negative remarks about officials. Stop "disciplining" coaches for pointing out a flaw in YOUR system that you wont address.

Suspending one official crew doesnt help, they need a better system of accountability..

This is the second coach to be reprimended by the SEC for comments that were completely correct.  The ball was obviously stripped before crossing the goalline.  The best defense is speaking the truth but obviously not in the SEC.

This isn't the first time this year that a goal line fumble has been called incorretly.  Has anyone else noticed that there is no camera positioned for a view straight down the goal line.  One is from the end zone side and the other is upfield.  Neither camera angle shows a definitive picture of whether or not the ball crosses the line.  So whether a fumble was called or TD the ...(more)

Coaches being repremanded for speaking there opinion. If the coaches poll factors into the BCS then your opinion counts. Now we need a little tact in how we present the opinions but it's almost perceived as "I MAKE THE CALLS AS I SEE THEM, AS MANY AS I WANT, YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO YOUR OPINION ABOUT THE CALLS, AND THE NEXT TIME YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH YOU'LL GET THE FLAG CRAMMED IN IT- AND A FINE.. ...(more)
