Cincinnati WR Hazelton tore ACL in season opener wire reports

CINCINNATI -- Vidal Hazelton tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Cincinnati's season opener, costing the Bearcats one of their top receivers.

Tests on Monday detected the tear. Hazelton will have surgery and miss the rest of the season.

Hazelton returned three kickoffs and had six catches for 68 yards before hurting his knee in the second half of a 28-14 loss at Fresno State on Saturday night. The senior was expected to make up for the loss of receiver Mardy Gilyard, who went to the NFL.

Hazelton sat out last season after transferring from Southern California. Marcus Barnett is expected to move into his receiving slot.
