Brunetti to start for Ole Miss after QB Mackey's arrest wire reports

Mississippisophomore quarterback Barry Brunetti will start the season-opener against Brigham Young on Sept. 3 after junior Randall Mackey was arrested early Tuesday for disorderly conduct.

Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt said Mackey is suspended for the BYU game. Mackey was at a local bar when police officers tried to break up a fight, according to the police report. Police said Mackey stepped forward and struck officer Hildon Sessums on the lip. Mackey claims he was pushed into the officer.

Regardless, the arrest outside a bar ended a three-way quarterback battle from among Brunetti, Mackey and junior Zack Stoudt. While Brunetti will start, Nutt said Stoudt will also play.

Mackey's initial court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 14. This is the second arrest of an Ole Miss football player in four days.

Junior tight end Jamal Mosley was arrested Saturday and charged with public drunkenness.
